With the participation of 188 athletes from 24 countries, the Pan American Open Judo Championship 2018 will be held on September 1st and 2nd, which will be hosted by Parque del Este.
The tournament will be dedicated to Sports Minister Danilo Díaz Vizcaíno and will bring together competitors from four continents. It will distribute points for the Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan, in the year 2020.
The details of the tournament were offered Wednesday by officials of the Ministry of Sports and the Fedojudo, in a meeting with the press held in the Miderec room.
The tournament is organized by the Dominican Federation of Judo (Fedojudo), and is an official event of the International Federation. The opening ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, September 1, at 4:00 in the afternoon.
"So far we have 24 countries that have confirmed their participation. The registration process closes on August 27, "added Gilberto García, president of Fedojudo. "It is a notorious event in America and the world, with great level. World ranking athletes are coming, "he added.
While Enmanuel Trinidad highlighted the work that has been done by Fedojudo in the sport development of the country. "Judo is projected to do a great job in the Pan American Games in Lima and the Olympics in Tokyo. We will continue accompanying judo to achieve the expected success, "said Trinidad.
Among the countries that have confirmed their participation are: Angola, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Cameroon, Canada, Colombia, Gabon, Great Britain, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Italy, Mauritius, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, San Martin , Spain, Suriname, the United States, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic.
