Following discussions with the International Judo Federation, the Government of Brasilia and Sponsors, the Brazilian Judo Confederation (CBJ) has the pleasure to confirm that it will host two Judo Grand Slams in the city of Brasilia in 2019 and 2020.
The CBJ has a long history of judo and has successfully organised international events. Moreover, judo is very popular in the country and attracts fans and judo aficionados from all over the world. Thus, for many years, the CBJ had organized Grand Slams in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the flagship event of the International Judo Federation, the World Championships, in 2007 and 2013. In 2012, in London, with Sarah Menezes and in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, with Rafaela Silva, Brazil once again showed that it was one of the top nations in the judo world, at the same time emphasising that sport can be a powerful drive for social changes.
The 2019 Grand Slam will take place in Brasilia between the 6-8 of October and will be an Olympic qualification event. We are grateful to the aforementioned parties for their support and we promise to organise a top level event for the athletes. Welcome back to Brazil, International Judo Family!
