The World Association of Olympic Athletes (WOA) has presented its OLY postnominations start-up initiative at the International Athletes Forum of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) 2017 in Lausanne.
After the delivery of his OLY certificate to the President of the IOC, Thomas Bach - who is the first Olympic Athlete to receive the initials - the President of the WOA, Joël Bouzou invited all the Olympic Athletes in the world to register to use " OLY "After their names similar to other postnominal designations like PhD.
Reflecting on the symbolic recognition of the status of Olympic Athlete in society, the OIE OLY favoring social work, charitable and based on the community tasks of the Olympic Athletes, acting as a unifying reminder of their achievements and their responsibility to Embody values of Olympism in everyday life.
The initiative, launched by the WOA and supported by the IOC Athletes Commission, would allow Olympic Athletes to use the postnominal initials OLY in the publication. All applicants will receive a certificate from WOA honoring their achievements. The postnominal initials OLY offer the Olympic Athletes:

At the opening of the International Athletes Forum of the IOC, the President of the WOA, Joël Bouzou joined the IOC President, Thomas Bach and the President of the IOC Athletes Commission, Angela Ruggiero for the initiative, which is available to all athletes who already have competition in Summer or Winter Olympics and who continue to uphold the values and practices included in the Olympic Charter and the WOA Code of Conduct.
The OLY initiative is so important. Whether as a doctor, a lawyer or a university professor, becoming an Olympic Athlete has many years of hard work and requires a number of different skills. I believe that this initiative gave Olympic Athletes the professional recognition they deserve.
