About Us

The Panamerican Judo Confederation (PJC) is made up of the National Judo Federations of America. Each National Federation must be recognized by its Olympic Committee as the only official federation representing its country before the international sports authorities, which, in turn, must have been recognized as such by the International Olympic Committee. The PJC is composed of 32 national federations / associations of judo, and the IJF recognizes the PJC as one of the five continental judo organizations.

The magnitude of the development of judo in the world has made necessary the creation of the Continental Unions, to apply the policy of the International Judo Federation and the International Olympic Committee.

Professor Jigoro KANO created judo in 1882. Method of education derived from martial arts. Judo is a highly codified discipline, through which an intelligent expression of the body is achieved and for this reason it participates in the education of those who practice it.

Beyond competition and combat, judo is characterized by a search for technical perfection, katas, self-defense work, body preparation and spiritual development. The Master who created judo imagined it, as an essentially modern and progressive activity, a discipline born of ancestral traditions.

Olympic Sport

Proceeding with the organization of the Kodokan and promulgating Judo regulations, Prof. Kano became the first Asian member of the International Olympic Committee in 1909 and worked for the dissemination of Judo throughout the world. Judo became an official event at the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 1964, backed by Judo fans and sports promoters from around the world.
